Ms Hsin-I Chien received her MA in English Renaissance and 18th Century Literature from University of Liverpool. Her dissertation title was: Power, Magic, and Metadrama in The Tempest, Doctor Faustus, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Macbeth. She has been trained to read16th century printed texts, and this skill allows her the ability to quickly familiarise with various kinds of handwritten journals and diaries.
She is fluent in English and Chinese, and knows Thai and Japanese. She is learning Spanish and has basic knowledge of a few other European languages.
She has taught TOEIC at Hung Kuang University of Technology, and is currently employed by the GIS Center, Research Center for Humanities and Social Sciences, Academia Sinica, as research assistant.
Her general research interests are Renaissance literature, especially in the context of magic, the occult, and the esoteric. She has also developed an incipient interest in travel writing of the 18th century on-wards.
