Dr Chih-Yun Chang

ChihyunChangDr Chang received his PhD from University of Bristol under Professor Robert Bickers’ supervision, thesis on ‘The Chinese State, Its Maritime Customs and the Chinese Staff, 1900-c. 1960.’

After he graduated in 2010, he joined the Center for Geographic Information Science, Research Center for Humanities and Social Science, Academia Sinica to carry out reserach plans concerning the Customs Service in August 2010. In July 2011, he accepted the two-year fellowship offered by the Institute of Modern History, Acadmia Sinica.

Dr Chang has published a series of works, focusing on institutional histories of CMCS and Customs College, historiographical hisotry on the Hart diaries, and collaborationism. Now he is working on the trade statistical system in nineteenth-century China. Apart from his historian’s project, Chang is also working with computer scientists, geographers, and literary scholars on interdisciplinary projects.
